JOB DESCRIPTION: R&D Technician / Decorator / Trainer

Creative Occasions, Inc. is a privately held bakery wholesale company that produces a wide variety of high quality, fully finished and decorated cakes for the In-Store Bakery segment. Product is shipped in full frozen truckloads to customers within an 800 mile radius of Nashville. Founded in 2001, Creative Occasions has a reputation for high quality cake products and excellent service to its customer base. With approximately 200 employees, Creative Occasions produces about 4.0 million cakes per year.

As a medium sized business, Creative Occasions is a fast paced environment with a philosophy that encourages teamwork and cross functional involvement.

The right person for this opportunity will require:

  1. 3 + years of cake decorating experience
  2. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft programs)
  3. Ability to communicate well with others (written and verbal)

* Pastry Chef Status or degree from technical institute is a major plus.

Reporting directly to the R&D Manager the responsibilities of this position include:

  • Work with Sales team and R & D Manager to assemble, pack and ship all sample requests.
  • Work with Bakery production to make sure all necessary layers are baked and icings are prepared for samples.
  • Communicate with Sales and R & D on all sample requests to make sure there is a clear understanding of what is expected.
  • Document all component weights for samples and work together with purchasing & cost accounting to develop go to market costing.
  • Conduct routine moisture tests on cake layers and viscosity tests on icing batches
  • Work with Marketing and R & D Manager on new projects and formulas (batter and icing) and on new cake ideas and designs.
  • Understand the functionality of the decorating equipment used on the production lines and gain a clear understanding of production so when new cake are created they will transfer seamlessly to the production environment.
  • Train decorators in new cake introductions to production lines.

Nashville TN Based, 95% R&D Lab and Production environment, 5% Travel for customer interaction and convention display support.
